This Pride Month, I had the honor of sitting down with Katie Kimball Dyer, host of The Heart of Finance podcast, for an episode called "Pride & Dime: Financial Planning for the LGBTQ+ Community." We talked about why firms like ours exist, what it actually means to build an inclusive financial planning practice, and why feeling welcomed and safe with your advisor matters just as much as their credentials.
You can listen to the full conversation on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. To keep up with Katie and The Heart of Finance, visit www.heartoffinance.com or follow @the.heart.of.finance on Instagram.
Or, watch it right here now!
Every June, we like to pause and say it plainly: we're here for you.
At Planning for Good, serving the LGBTQ+ community isn't a campaign we run for one month a year. It's the reason this firm exists. We built our practice around the idea that financial planning should feel welcoming, not clinical. That means inclusive language as a baseline, not an exception. It means a judgment-free space where you can talk about your real life, your real relationships, and your real goals, without having to translate any of it for someone who doesn't get it.
We know that for a lot of LGBTQ+ folks, finding a financial advisor has come with an extra layer of vetting. Will they understand my family structure? Will they ask the right questions about beneficiaries, healthcare directives, or estate planning if my situation doesn't look traditional? Will I have to explain myself before we can even get to the numbers?
You shouldn't have to wonder. And you shouldn't have to settle.
So here's our Pride Month ask: if you're looking for financial guidance, or you know someone who is, consider interviewing an advisor who specifically commits to serving the communities you most identify with. Ask how they support LGBTQ+ clients. Ask what that commitment actually looks like in practice. A good advisor relationship starts with feeling safe enough to ask hard questions, and that goes both ways.
And no matter where you're based, distance isn't a barrier. We work with clients virtually, which means we can serve you wherever you call home, not just where our office happens to be.
Happy Pride. We're glad you're here, and we'd love to talk.
